Nils von Dardel (1888-1943) was a Swedish painter known for his intriguing and innovative artworks. His life was marked by artistic exploration and innovation. Despite not achieving great success during his lifetime, his artistic reputation grew steadily after his death. One of his paintings, "Den döende dandyn" (The dying dandy), created in 1918, became an iconic symbol in the Swedish Gay Rights movement in the 1980s. His artwork also gained considerable value in the art market, with one of his pieces setting a record as the most expensive modernist Swedish painting sold in 2012.
