Annibale Carracci is an artist who, over time, has become somewhat forgotten despite his significant impact on art. His discreet lifestyle and lack of scandals have caused him to fade into the background, overshadowed by more famous artists (read: Caravaggio). However, he left a lasting legacy through the Carracci Academy in Bologna, which he founded together with his brother Agostino and his cousin Ludovico Carracci. The academy prioritized the study of nature and the human body, marking a departure from the Mannerist style that was popular at the time and signaling the beginning of the Baroque movement.

Carracci’s lifestyle was much less publicized compared to figures like Caravaggio, who was notorious for his turbulent life. This might partly explain why Annibale’s name is not as widely recognized today, despite his crucial influence on the rise of the Baroque and his significant works in fresco painting and altarpieces.
