Johan Kinnerus was an 18th-century Swedish church painter associated with the Vartofta school. He is best known for richly decorated church interiors in western Sweden, combining Baroque theatricality with a distinctly regional, folk-influenced style.

Painted as part of Habo Church’s extensive decorative programme by Johan Kinnerus and Johan Christian Peterson, The Last Supper combines vivid colour, expressive figures and dramatic Baroque staging. A small devil beneath the table symbolically identifies Judas and his betrayal.
