1858-1932 Sweden
Johan Krouthén was a Swedish painter from Linköping, known for his bright and peaceful landscapes and garden scenes. After studying at the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm, he spent time in Paris and Denmark, including with the Skagen Painters. He returned to Linköping in the 1880s and became known for his naturalistic style, often depicting local environments.
Though he painted portraits and religious works, it was his idyllic outdoor scenes that made him popular. His painting Spring in the Garden won a gold medal at the Paris Salon in 1889. Later in life, he continued painting familiar motifs, often based on his own photographs.
