Cubism, developed by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque around 1907, is an influential art movement that revolutionized the way artists represented reality. Instead of depicting subjects from a single viewpoint, Cubism breaks objects into geometric shapes and presents multiple perspectives simultaneously. This abstract approach challenges traditional notions of depth and perspective. Cubism can be divided into two phases: Analytical Cubism, which focuses on breaking down objects into fragmented, overlapping planes, and Synthetic Cubism, which incorporates simpler shapes and collage techniques. It marked a major shift towards abstraction in modern art and influenced many later movements, such as Futurism and Constructivism.
