Cornelis Cornelisz van Haarlem

Cornelis van Haarlem (full name: Cornelis Cornelisz van Haarlem, 1562–1638) was a Dutch Mannerist painter known for his dynamic compositions, dramatic anatomy and mythological themes. His name reflects the common Dutch naming convention of the time: "Cornelis Cornelisz" means "Cornelis, son of Cornelis" while "van Haarlem" indicates his birthplace. Often called simply "Cornelis van Haarlem" he was a leading figure in the Haarlem school of painting and significantly influenced the development of Dutch art in the late 16th and early 17th centuries.
